The goal of the project is to create a learning system focused on senior citizens that runs on mobile devices and downloads open learning content from an online platform. The system will integrate different media formats and interactivity into an innovative “micro unit” format suited even for small screen devices such as smartphones and easy enough to be used intuitively.

OPALESCE intends to create an innovative distance learning system in which seniors with no previous ICT knowledge can learn in an attractive and simple way as well as motivate possible content providers in participating in this learning process.

The distance learning system will run on mobile devices and is focused on the senior citizens as main users, although it will we accessible to anyone interested in distance learning.

The system will take advantage of an intuitive and innovative micro unit format that uses different media formats and interactivity. The micro units permit the user to learn about one subject in 15 minutes. Content is focused one one screen per idea which the users may change anytime by swiping forward or backwards depending on their needs.

OPALESCE distance learning system not only empowers senior citizens to have easy access to a system that teaches them the basics of using mobile devices, but also provides them with a tool for
continuous lifelong learning despite potential mobility issues.

The OPALESCE project is a Strategic Partnership project in the framework of Erasmus+.
