Net Media Lab organized the Online Conference (Multiplier Event) of the Erasmus+ Project “ROBOTICS4DEAF: Robotics through Sign Language: Ensuring Access & Engagement of Students with Disabilities (Deaf or With Hearing Impairment) to the World of Coding & Robotics“, which took place online on Friday 26 November 2021 via Zoom, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the limitations imposed by it in Greece. A strong audience of over 90 people attended the event, which was entitled: “Educational Robotics, STEM, 21st Century Skills in the Service of Special Education Teachers and Inclusion” and lasted 3 hours. The audience consisted of parents, General and Special Education teachers, Psychologists and other stakeholders.

In the first part, Dr. Athanasios Drigas, Research Director at N.C.S.R. “Demokritos” presented the Research Center to the audience together with the activities of his laboratory. He then presented an overview of the ROBOTICS4DEAF project before all four (4) Intellectual Outputs, results and activities, were presented in detail by Valantis Kefalis and Yannis Papagerasimou.

After the presentation of the project and its results, which was the main aim of the event, the second part was devoted to a discussion on the role of metacognitive abilities, 21st century skills and educational robotics in special education, which was moderated by Dr. Athanasios Drigas, with the participation of members of the audience who actively engaged in this discussion.

The Intellectual Outputs and products of the project are specifically the following:

  • IO1: Constructing the Targeted Competence Framework for Robotics/Coding
  • IO2: Eco-system for Teaching, Learning And Assessment of Coding and Robotics Through the Digital Badges
  • IO3: Cloud-based Portal, e-learning Platform and Mobile Application
  • IO4: A to Z Guide for Setting Up the Robotics4deaf Clubs
