Net Media Lab participated in the organisation and implementation of the Joint Staff Training Event of the Erasmus+ Project “ROBOTICS4DEAF: Robotics through Sign Language”

The Short-Term Joint Staff Training Event (C1) of the Erasmus+ project ROBOTICS4DEAF: Robotics through Sign Language: Ensuring Access & Engagement of Students with Disabilities (Deaf or With Hearing Impairment) to the World of Coding & Robotics was held online on 6-8 July 2021.

People with Deafness or Hearing impairment from Cyprus, Greece, Poland, Italy Latvia and Slovakia, participated in the training. Despite the fact that the event was held online there were no difficulties thanks to the sign language Interpreters who translated everything that was being said by the trainers, who set up a coding environment which was easy to follow and understand.

The participants were trained by Mr. Nicholas Moudouros from the Emphasys Centre (Cyprus) and Mr. Chrysovalantis Kefalis from N.C.S.R. Demokritos (Greece), on the following Modules:

  1. Learn how to make SMARC move
  2. The loop coding concept
  3. Sensors, Following Walls with Smarc
  4. Following Lines with Smarc
  5. Detecting Sound with Smarc
  6. Navigating Smarc with a Remote Controller
  7. Using Variables with Smarc

as well as on the educational Scenarios with live exercises using the robots: SMARC, Vernie and M.T.R.4.

Mrs. Anda Abuže from Rezekne Academy of Technologies (Latvia), also presented to the participants the platform designed to host the educational material of the project.

The feedback from the teachers who participated in the event was very positive. They expressed their excitement and stated that even though the event was held online, they really enjoyed it and learned a lot about educational robotics.
